What is Clean Truck Check?

"California's Clean Truck Check (CTC) program requires all heavy-duty diesel trucks operating in California to pass an emissions inspection every 90 days. If your truck enters California, it needs to be compliant."

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) rolled out the Clean Truck Check program to reduce emissions from heavy-duty diesel trucks. Every truck with a GVWR over 14,000 lbs that operates in California must register, report, and pass periodic inspections. Non-compliance means fines, impoundment, and being barred from California roads.

The program is already in effect. Enforcement ramped up significantly in 2025. If you haven't registered your fleet yet, you're already past the grace period.

Why this matters now

CARB enforcement is accelerating. The grace period is over.

Clean Truck Check started with warnings. Then came the fines. In 2025, CARB began roadside enforcement — trucks without proof of compliance are being cited on the spot. Fines start at $1,000 per violation per day and escalate quickly for repeat offenses.
